Careers in health sciences are open to students from any major providing the student completes the courses required for entry into the professional school and qualifies through the National Examination required by that school. At Loyola, the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, and Psychology offer a curriculum for pre-medical and pre-health students, which prepare them to enter Professional and Graduate Schools in Medical Fields. Medical schools strongly encourage students to become broadly educated in non-science disciplines when they are undergraduates rather than to overspecialize in science courses. Courses in religious studies, English, Philosophy, Sociology, History, Political Sciences, Modern Foreign Languages and other Liberal Arts disciplines provide the breadth of knowledge needed to enrich the life of the student and ultimately the lives in his or her care.
