Biography
As a counselor, I can make a difference in students' lives. New Orleans was a big change from my home town in Managua, Nicaragua. As the average International Student coming from a modest family, I never thought I could meet people from all over the world, graduate with two majors, and study abroad in Barcelona. I like telling students about my personal experience because it helps them understand that it is possible to learn, make new friends, and visit new and exciting places, all within four years of college. Since day one, Loyola University New Orleans has been my home away from home. People like Fr. Eddie Gross my minister and mentor, and Dr. Ganitsky, my academic counselor; made me feel that I had a family at Loyola University New Orleans.
After eight years of living in New Orleans, I like to consider myself a local. Yet every time I take the trolley down to the French Quarter and watch the performers in front of Jackson Square, while drinking my hot chocolate with Beignets from Café Du Monde, I feel like a tourist all over again.
